ARTIST + CREATIVE DIRECTOR + PHOTOGRAPHER
In an effort to raise money for organizations (update: we raised $400 total and split it between the three organizations listed below) working to dismantle systemic racism, I painted this poncho for auction. To market the piece, I called upon a friend to model and I shot and art directed her wearing the poncho on a sunny afternoon in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
The artwork is a continuation of a series of work called Separate Connection that is inspired by the relationships we have with objects, ourselves, and others as experienced during the 2020 period of social distancing, isolation, and self-quarantine. Along with the mural and small works, the poncho also utilized found paint on its untouched surfaces as it begged to be a vehicle to support these very important organizations: Southern Poverty Law Center, Equal Justice Initiative, and The Loveland Foundation.
